In Periodontal flap surgery the gum tissues are cut surgically. After flapping & surgically lifting the gums from the teeth, the underlying damaged tissue is removed. Any damaged portion of the bone is grafted and appropriate closure is done using sutures.
Laser assisted periodontal flap surgery on the other hand, have relatively a greater probability bone and gum healing. A LASER is used to clean bone pockets and periodontal flap.
The pain is also much less in this kind of surgery. complications like swelling, post-operative bleeding etc are less frequent & mild.
